Thomas Haney![]() Electronic Room into Studio ![]() Electronic Room Thomas was born in Quito, Ecuador, of American parents. He served two tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged, after receiving the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. He was employed by the Smithsonian Institution and became a master cabinetmaker. Having taken several art courses, but mainly being self-thought, and winning numerous awards, he then moved to rural Nelson County, Virginia with his wife, and built his solar house and studio. Thomas now creates sculptures, painting, and computer art that range from realistic to surrealistic. They are characterized by flowing, curvilinear forms. His works in wood capitalize on grain patterns, silhouettes, and reflections. His composite mixed media sculptures have a porcelain-like impression. His paintings and computer images follow the same vein as his sculpture. One man exhibits include Saigon, Vietnam; Washington, D.C.; and Lynchburg, Virginia. International and national juried shows include New York, Texas, Arizona, California, and Washington, D. C. Regional juried shows throughout Virginia. His bronze sculptures have been exhibited at the National Cathedral, Washington, D.C.
